Title | : | Optimization of “novel” worm and worm wheel gears for use in rotary table applications. |
Application | : | The heart of the rotary table is the worm shaft and worm wheel system driving the rotary table accurately. Conventionally, the worm and worm gear assemblies are made from steel (worm shaft) and bronze (worm wheel), however, due to intrinsic softness of the material used in the worm wheel, wear and tear ensues leading to a time dependent degradation in the precision and accuracy produced by the worm gear assembly within the rotary table. It is our requirement of a research project to test novel materials such as steel based worm shaft and steel based worm wheel assemblies. If successful, the new worm gear system would lead to production of rotary tables that have long life, low maintenance, better accuracy and load bearing capacity etc. We are keen to collaborate on this R&D project, to augment its own capability and to enhance technology in this area. |
