REACH Compliance and Houghton Preparedness for the Deadline 31 May 2018.

The primary purpose of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through a system of Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) whilst maintaining the free movement of goods on the EU Market.

The REACH Regulation become law throughout the EU on 1st June 2007 and has phased program of implementation over 11 Years. Described as ‘the most ambitious chemicals legislation in the world’. This regulations is adopted by all 31 countries within the European Economic Area (EEA). REACH will apply to about 30,000 chemical substance which are currently in use across Europe.

Component and equipment manufacturers Industry have to ensure their products comply with all legislation.

Under REACH, harmful substances need to be registered with ECHA (The European Chemical Agency). This involves submitting a dossier that indicates the volume of the substance manufactured or imported in the countries covered by the European Economic Agreement, the specific product uses and the results of specific toxicity testing depending on that volume and uses. Each manufacturer or importer has to register the substance.
