Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 6th October 2023, at Central Manufacturing Technology Institute (CMTI), Bangalore. Coinciding with this meeting, a visit to the laboratories and facilities at CMTI was organised.

Presentation on Technology solutions of CMTI to Manufacturing industry and R&D/laboratory capabilities.

Presentation on industry status of Q1 FY2023-24.

Discussion with CMTI on possible joint collaboration for solutions pertaining to product upgradation, prototype testing of machines, material requirements etc. towards enhancing the technology capabilities of machine tools.

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 27th December 2022, at Ace Designers Ltd., Bangalore. Coinciding with this meeting, a visit to the shop floor at Ace Designers was organised.   

Salient points of the meeting

  • Members deliberated on the various challenges being faced by the machine tool industry on aspects pertaining to supply chain, foreign exchange fluctuations, skilled human resource shortage and attracting next-gen talent into the industry, amongst others.
  • AMSL shared their initiatives on “Strengthening Indian machine tool supply chain ecosystem – The way forward”, aimed at enhancing supply chain management and working towards a win-win collaboration between manufacturers and suppliers.

9 September 2022 (Friday): Ace Manufacturing Systems Ltd., Bangalore

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 9th September 2022, at Ace Manufacturing Systems Ltd. (AMSL), Bangalore. Coinciding with this meeting, a visit to the shop floors at AMSLs and Amace Solutions was organised.   

Salient points of the meeting

  • Members were apprised about the business opportunities for Machine Tool industry in sunrise sectors such as Railways, Toys manufacturing, Electronics, Construction equipment etc., that have been identified during plant visits of IMTMA’s task forces.
  • AMSL shared their experiences on development of “AMS SCM partner’s cluster” aimed at driving performance improvement for sustainable growth.
  • Presentation on the features and benefits of “Prakalpa” a project management software developed by Precitec Precision Machineries Pvt. Ltd.

4 June 2022 (Saturday): Bharat Fritz Werner Ltd., Bangalore

First meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) for the year 2022-23 was held on 4th June 2022, at Bharat Fritz Werner Ltd., Bangalore. Coinciding with this meeting, a visit to the shop floors at BFW and m2nxt was organised.

 

Key discussion points

Members were apprised on industry trends pertaining to consumption, production, and exports of the Indian machine tool industry, over the previous financial year.

The following initiatives were discussed and proposed to be implemented along with the forthcoming Regional Council (South) meetings.

  • Consortium approach for procurement of steel
  • Session by Mr.R.Sridharan, CFO, Murugappa Group
  • Intra member facility / plant visits
  • Create a common platform for optimising inventory management of non-moving items, amongst RC(S) member companies.
  • Fostering collaborative / partnership approach amongst member companies to boost exports
  • Connect with associations in overseas countries to promote exports amongst their member companies
  • Members were apprised about the update on Tumakuru Machine Tool Park (TMTP) and asked to consider setting up a manufacturing facility.

Meeting of IMTMA Regional Council (South)
19 November 2021 (Friday): Virtual Meeting

First meeting of the reconstituted IMTMA Regional Council (South) for the year 2021-22 was held on 19 November 2021, via digital platform. Coinciding with this meeting, a Special Session on “Living in a Dysfunctional World – Strategies for Survival, Revival and Growth” was organised. Mr. Shailesh Sheth, Past President, IMTMA, shared his thoughts on the current dynamics of the VUCA world and how companies need to adopt paradigm shifts in their business processes to ensure sustained growth. This session was very well appreciated by members of Regional Councils South, North and West.

Key discussion points

Members were apprised on industry trends pertaining to consumption, production, exports and orders booked in the Indian machine tool industry, over the previous financial years.

The following initiatives were discussed and proposed to be implemented along with the forthcoming Regional Council (South) meetings.

Meeting of IMTMA Regional Council (South)
29 May 2021: Virtual Meeting

First meeting of IMTMA Regional Council (South) for FY 2021-22 was held on 29 May 2021.

Coinciding with the meeting, a Special Session on “Lean Management in Machine Tool Manufacturing” was organised via digital platform, which was well appreciated by members.

Salient points of the meeting

  • President, IMTMA, suggested SME member companies to consider adopting Lean management in their organisations.
  • Members discussed on the current industry status vis-à-vis order booking, supply chain, material availability, manpower issues, and so on.
  • Members proposed that IMTMA could consider organising long term training programmes on Sales and Marketing, for the machine tool industry professionals.
  • Chairman proposed that members could consider providing 2-3 months internship to a few engineering students, in order to train them and be industry ready.

Meeting of IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 27th February 2021. Coinciding with the meeting, a Special Session on “Digital Marketing” was organised via digital platform.

Salient points of the meeting

Road map for 2021-22 was discussed. The following initiatives have been proposed to be implemented along with the forthcoming meetings.

  • To organise sessions on
    • Lean Management
    • Structuring of sales force and sales processes
    • Six-Thinking-Hats.
  • To organise visits to RC(S) members’ factories.
  • Build Industry-Institute linkage - Train upcoming engineers on being Industry

 The Session on “Digital Marketing trends for manufacturing industry: Marketing 4.0” was attended by 44 members and was well appreciated.

Meeting of IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 28th November 2020 via virtual platform – Zoom meeting

 

  • Rajendra Rajamane chaired the meeting and welcomed members, and also accorded a special welcome to Mr. Nikhil Agrawal, Vice Chairman, to the first Regional Council (South) meeting for the FY 2020-21.
  • After a brief introduction of members of the reconstituted Regional Council (South), a presentation on “IMTMA activities & Key process” was made by Mr. M. G. Srinivas, Executive Director -
  • Members were briefed about various Task Forces of IMTMA such as Agricultural machinery, Woodworking / Furniture / Toys sector, Medical devices / equipment, Electronics, Construction equipment, and requested members to volunteer.
  • Chairman invited members to share their ideas / suggestions on activities that could be taken up in the forthcoming Regional Council (South) meetings.

Meeting of IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 24th October 2018 in CMTI premises, Bangalore.

IMTMA Regional Council (South) members visited the facilities of CMTI - Nano Manufacturing Technology Centre (NMTC), Bangalore as well as AMTTF. The visit was highly appreciated by members.

The meeting of IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 15th June 2018 in BIEC, Bangalore.

Coinciding with the meeting, IMTMA Regional Council (South) members visited the facilities of Toyota Industries Engine India Pvt Ltd (TIEI), Jigani (Engine Division.), and interacted with the TIEI team. Members witnessed several best practices being followed at TIEI. The visit was highly appreciated by the members.

A presentation on "Goods and Services Tax” (GST) with focus on manufacturing was made at the Special Session, prior to the meeting. The interactive session was well appreciated by members.

Meeting on 17th December 2016 in Bangalore

  

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 17th December 2016 in Bangalore. Presentation on "National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme" by Mr. M.R. Gajre, Regional Director – RDAT Hyderabad & Mr. J.D. Masilamani, Jt. Director - RDAT Hyderabad and presentation on "Technology Acquisition Fund Programme (TAFP)" by Mr. Vimal Kumar, Deputy Director, and Strategic Business Development - Global Innovation & Technology Alliance (GITA) were made at the meeting.

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 6th August 2016 in Bangalore.

Members interacted on current industry status and actions needed to gear up to the challenge to meet customer expectations and demand.

The meeting included a presentation on the IMTMA initiatives such as Pune Machine Tool Expo 2016, Tender News, National Productivity Summit 2016, SME Proprietors’ Club etc.

Guest Speaker Prof. Amaresh Chakrabarti, Chairman, Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore made a presentation on ‘Industry 4.0.'

After the meeting, IMTMA Regional Council (South) members visited BEML Limited's Metro & Rail Division and interacted with BEML officials on their procurement processes and Machine Tool requirements. The visit was highly appreciated by the members.

The meeting was attended by 22 RC (S) members.

Meeting on 26th February 2016 @ STEER Engineering Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore 

 

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 26th February 2016.

Prior to the Meeting, an 'interactive meeting and plant visit' to Steer Engineering Pvt Ltd, was organised. Steer Engineering team made a presentation showcasing several best practices being followed at Steer Engineering. The visit was highly appreciated by the members.

The meeting was attended by 20 RC (S) members

A presentation on 'Sustainable Leadership Communication' by the Guest Speaker Mr. Ramesh T K, a Distinguish Toastmaster was also made at the Regional Council (South) meeting.


Meeting on 19th September 2015 @ Hotel Royal Orchid Central, Dickenson Road, Bangalore.

 


Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 19th Sept 2015.

Prior to the meeting, an ‘interactive meeting and plant visit’ to CNC Shop and ‘Adour’ Engine Assembly at Engine Division of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, C.V. Raman Nagar, Bangalore was undertaken.

The meeting was attended by 20 RC (S) members.

During the interactive meeting with officials of HAL Engine Division, the following points emerged / were discussed:

  • Procurement processes (e-portal) and requirement of HAL Engine Division
  • HAL has started procurement from Indian manufacturers (indigenous manufacture) for ‘A’ Class items / Components since which were being imported.
  • HAL invited MTMs to register through online for participating in the tender.
  • IMTMA RC(S) members had an opportunity to establish contact with HAL officials which further provides scope for enhancing their business.

In the meeting the members suggested the following:

  • IMTMA Secretariat to share details of candidates passing out of Finishing School as well as Design Institute with all members of RCS.
  • Members suggested IMTMA Secretariat to include few points in Guide Book on Export Packing of Machine Tools.
    • Behaviour of packing
    • Cost for building (Design of the packing),
    • Customise the machine packing – Design in such a way that machine fit in the container easily and
    • Nylon tarpal cover packing (without wood packing).
  • Members suggested that IMTMA Secretariat to print the publication in Hardcopy format and softcopy can be uploaded in the IMTMA website.

Meeting held on 26th May 2015 @ Kennametal India Limited, Machine Tool & Cutting Tool Division., Bangalore. 


Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 26th May 2015, coinciding with plant visit to Machine Tool & Cutting Tool Division facilities at Kennametal India Limited., Bangalore.

The meeting was attended by close to 23 RC (S) members

Prior to the commencement of the Regional Council meeting, members were guided to visit to Machine Tool & Cutting Tool Division facilities at Kennametal India Limited. Kennametal’s efforts and emphasis given to safety aspects was appreciated by members.

Chairman informed members that Mr. Indradev Babu, Managing Director, UCAM Pvt. Ltd. would be the Deputy Chairman of Regional Council (South).

In the meeting the members suggested the following:

  • IMTMA Secretariat to share details of candidates passing out of Finishing School as well as Design Institute with all members of RCS.
  • Members suggested that IMTMA Secretariat could consider to bring out a Report on Export packing” (without wood) for machine tools and related products.

INTERACTIVE MEETING BETWEEN Members of Regional Council (South) & ITC Officials on 26th February 2015 @ ITC Ltd., India Tobacco Division, Bangalore

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 26 February 2015, coinciding with plant visit to ITC Ltd., India Tobacco Division, Bangalore.

The meeting was attended by about 11 Regional Council (South) members.

Prior to the Regional Council Meeting, a visit to the facilities of ITC Ltd.’s (Primary & Secondary Manufacturing Dept.) was organised. ITC management welcomed the delegates and made a presentation which showcased several best practices being followed at ITC. The visit was highly appreciated by the members.

Mr. Indradev Babu from UCAM and Mr. Rajesh Khanna from Wendt India released the Compendium of Industrial Painting & Coating Processes for Machine Tools which provides complete information and acts as a reference material for the Machine Tool Industry.

In the meeting the members suggested the following:

  • IMTMA secretariat should prepare reports on “Market Information” relating to purchase of machinery investment by various user sectors including Auto / Auto-component manufacturers in the region.
  • Export packing” (Global Standards) for machine tools and related products.
  • IMTMA Secretariat should conduct training programmes relating to paint techniques, quality, and selection of paint, etc., for the Machine Tool Industry.

INTERACTIVE MEETING BETWEEN Members of Regional Council (South) & TVS Officials held on 30th October 2014 @ TVS Motor Company Ltd., Hosur

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 30th October 2014, coinciding with visit to TVS Motor Company Ltd., Hosur

The TVS Group was established back in 1911, when the founder of the company, Shri T V Sundaram Iyengar created an enduring business, led by a family of like-minded workers and managers united by a set of high, yet shared principles. Driven by this inspiration, the TVS group has today emerged as India's leading player in the automobile and automotive components industries. The group has 30 companies employing a work force of around 40,000 people. TVS Motor Company is the largest among the group companies in terms of size and turnover.

Prior to Interactive Meeting, senior officials of TVS Motor Company took RC(S) members to their Plant II which has machining shop and assembly line.

After the plant visit, Interactive meeting was held between officials of TVS Motors Company and IMTMA RC(s) members.

The discussion was started by Mr. Deverajan from TVS motors explained about the practices followed at TVS motors. Further, he also explained about future plan of action and Expectation from Machine Tool Industry.Members expressed their readiness to build machines and requested TVS to give requirements at the initial stage so that MTBs will have sufficient time to work on that design.

Regional Council (S) meeting was held immediately after lunch.

The visit was highly appreciated by members and meeting ended with vote of thanks to the Chair and all participants.

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was held on 22nd July 2014, coinciding with visit to Ace Designers Ltd,painting division

Prior to the Regional Council Meeting, members visited Ace Designers’ painting division and observed best practices being followed. The subsequent to plant visit (on conclusion of the Regional Council Meeting held at Board Room at Innovation Centre of Ace Designer) was highly appreciated by members.

It was suggested that IMTMA secretariat would prepare Paint-shop manual and circulate to all the RC (s) members.

The meeting was attended by close to 27 RC (S) members.


INTERACTIVE MEETING BETWEEN Members of Regional Council (South) & PAINT MANUFACTURERS on 12th June 2014 @ Silver Oak, Technology Centre, BIEC, Bangalore

The meeting was attended by 20 0rganisations (11 from MTMs and 9 from Paint Manufacturers) with 32 participants (20 from MTMs and 12 from Paint Manufacturers).

During Interaction, paint problems related to machine tools were discussed.

During the meeting, MTMs and Paint Manufacturers discussed on various issues and concerns related to Typical Paint Quality and Reliability Problems. Members expressed that all such issues / concerns, can be resolved through greater collaboration between MTMs and the Paint manufactures.

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was conducted on 19th February 2014, coinciding with the plant visit to Ace Designer, Foundry Division in Bangalore.
The foundry is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and is largely automated and with the most modern smoke and dust drains away plants, keeping in view all the pollution control requirements of modern era and with compatibility.

The meeting was attended by close to 10 RC (S) members.


Meeting of IMTMA Regional Council(south) held on 30th May 2013 @ Autoliv India Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore.

Meeting of the IMTMA Regional Council (South) was conducted during 30th May 2013, coinciding with the plant visit to Autoliv (India) Pvt. Ltd.; which is a major supplier of seat belts & air-bags to all leading automobile OEMs such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motors and Volvo India.

One of the major learning during the visit was the use of Autonomous Manufacturing centres to improve productivity from individual processes thereby improving overall productivity; and the efficient use of Japanese management techniques to ensure ‘defect-free’ production in mass production lines; which has been thoroughly encapsulated within the Autoliv Production System. This coupled with the FIFO system followed in their stores along with the Delivery milk-run systems implemented for locally available parts; ensured that Autoliv India stood as a ‘sterling’ example on how companies can strive for achieving operational excellence on a day-to-day basis.
